Bald Eagle

I consider this to be one my best landscapes so far and it's hanging in my parents living room!

The water

I honestly don’t remember what I was planning exactly with this painting. I just know I spend days, hours of making tiny wrinkly lines in the water section. But I dind’t like it one bit. It looked wrong and I felt I would never get it right if I continued the same way. So once again I started looking for contrasts. The one thing that water is not, is square or rectangular. So why not do that. I cut stamps from cartboard in various sizes and just started stamping. As weird as it sounds, then the water came alive and it started to fit in…

I remember my daugther really found it weird but as stubborn as she is, even she admitted that it kind of looked pretty.

The mountains

The mountains and the trees took me ages, but I LOVE how the mountains turned out. The warm light of the sunset and the icy shades just look awesome to me.

Funny thing about the picture here is that I decided, by the end of the painting, that the sky need just a few of these weird ‘stamps’ from the water, to tie the whole thing together. Well my kids and wife still hate that part and will tell me every time they see it…

Trees

I just haven’t done many realistic landscapes yet, but I love how these trunks turned out. The light trunks are reflecting the last sunlight of the evening and that creates such a wonderful contrast with the dark shades behind it. As if you’re camping there and watching it.

Bald Eagle

The bird itself. Not 1000% thrilled by the result here, but it fits well enough in the painting. And even though the poor bird is sort of highjacked by the Americans as a symbol of their country, it is a beautiful creature if you see it flying in the air…

On the wall

My parents actually asked if I wanted to make something for them and since I was in the middle of making this one, I promised they could have this one once it was finished. That took me quite long still, because I’m a bit less productive in summer. But still at some point I had to declare it finished (although there always something that can be improved once you see it again).

However, I’m proud that it’s hanging in their living room and I do think it ended up quite alright.
