Middle Earth

I think I made this over the course of 2 or 3 years when I was early 20s. It was so much work and I got bored over it. But Tolkien fan as I am, I had to finish it at some point.

The Shire

I first user waterpaint to colour the paper and then deliberately made stains on it, to make it look older. I even wanted to burn the sides, but decided not to do that…

Then the endless process of dippping your dip pen in the ink and drawing 3 trees or 2 hills began…

Details

Of course the map has all the important places of the books, from the Shire, to the Gates of Moria and from Edoras to Mordor.

It was a lot of work, but I’m still a huge Tolkien fan, so I still think it’s cool to have a handmade map of Middle Earth.

Signature

There is only 1 think about this work that still bothers me to this day. I think I started to sign work with 3C, but if you look well enough you’ll spot the mistake. Instead a 3 I’ve draws an E. And since it’s ink, there’s not much I can do about it… So I decided to just leave it as it is…
